25 January 2007

I'm back, one last thing to do, have linked into World eBook Fair & downloaded Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte from Gutenberg project. Found searching 'trickey', eg author searches for Stephen King & Dean Koontz came back with 0 hits, available titles must be selective?? Had no trouble downloading Jane Eyre, connection was quick (I'm at home)! I won't use this site, prefer to read, great for listeners though & vision impaired!
The End!!
Well, I made it!! Interesting exercises, enjoyed some, not others. Found a couple of sites frustrating, more instruction needed, others were great! This was a good introduction to '23 new things' which I know I'll use down the track! I'm up with my kids now, somewhat.....How exciting to learn new stuff!!!
Thank you to Denise & Lynette, what a tonne of work you must have!
Well, I'm off to have a cold one now!!!
Thanks for the opportunity...
Turtlegirl signing off....... for now.....
I've had a wander through Netlibrary, the link to set up an account is still down so I've listened to the tutorial instead, very informative, easy to follow! Disappointed I can't download anything, I'll try again later!

24 January 2007

As Netlibrary is down at the moment, (I will come back to it later) I've backtracked to Library thing (Week 5) as this was down when I tried to access it the first time. I've set up an account & catalogued 5 random books, nice easy site to navigate:

I've found an interesting podcast supplied by the Sunnyvale Public Library Service which airs a preschool story time session in action. This is great for parents who can't access the program but can still participate with their child through listening. Podcasts are another form of providing access to services & information! Think of the promotional opportunities. I was impressed!

I've uploaded a vid from You tube. I've set up an account. The sites fine with the exception of interruptions, I've viewed 3 & they all have this problem so I'm guessing this is the norm! Connection maybe???
Vid uploaded Jenson Ackles-Smallville

Week 9

I found a vid in You Tube on Jenson Ackles a favourite actor of mine which was why I chose it. I can see You Tube as a great promotional tool for libraries, events, programs etc.
OMG, HAVE I ACTUALLY SAVED A PICTURE CORRECTLY?? MY BLOG WILL BE SOOO MUCH MORE INTERESTING NOW!!!!

Week 8

Could not gain access to Zoho so had a look at Google Docs & Spreadsheets instead! Similiar functionality to word based programs but obviously different access abilities..like the fact you can share/edit docs with others & export files pdf. or html...

I've had another look at Flickr, this is my favourite site so far, I'm going to have another go at uploading a picture..wish me luck..

Week 7
Wiki's are kind a cool, can see a lot of benefit for use in libraries, online bookclubs, online feedback etc. Wiki's are a great resource sharing tool particularly between libraries, however users need to be aware infomation is not authoratative, in the case of Wikipedia for example!
I've added my blog to Sandbox Wiki!
Week 6
Had a look at Delicious & Technorati, could spend all day navigating around so moved on to Web 2.0 future of libraries, found 'Away from Icebergs' article interesting. I agree it's great to offer new technological services to patrons providing libraries can assist in the instruction on how to use them. Training is essential if we're to deliver services successfully & encourage patrons to use them regularly!
Week 5
Hi there, I've had a play with an online image generator, (mag & book covers) actually, I'd be happy to post my work of art on the blog but I keep getting 'error on page' when I try to do so, so I'll have to leave it that. Librarything is 'down' so I haven't look at that yet, I'll come back to it! Rollyo was good, I've created an account & searchroll 'De' searchroll'.

Week 4
Some words of wisdom I discovered on Bloglines, oh & I did set up an account:

"We are here and it is now. Further than that all human knowledge is moonshine."

"A conference is a gathering of important people who singly can do nothing, but together can decide that nothing can be done."

"Don't knock the weather. If it didn't change once in a while, nine out of ten people couldn't start a conversation."

Library related sites:

It's time to talk about something 'technology related'. As technology ceases to excite me I find this challenging, nevertheless, I'll give anything 'a go' so I did, a Flickr mashup! I've created a fab mag cover aptly titled 'Diamond Creek Dudes' which unfortunately cannot be viewed on the blog because I don't know where it went! And that's my view on technology! Someone pass me the salt!

Week 3
Well, I've plodded into Flickr & had a bit of a play! Had a good laugh at some of the pics!
I'll let you make up your own mind about this one!!!
